3 day Chess Event with Grandmaster Timur Gareev

Off da ROOK hosted a 3 day event with chess Grandmaster Timur Gareev. The event began with a meet and greet Friday night. Timur gave a quick lecture on the Fishing Pole trap. Shyam Ghandi (age 14) and rated 2054 also gave a lesson to the group. Following that, Justin Choi gave blindfold chess a try. He turned his back and played as white, while the rest of the group took turns playing collectively as black. Justin impressed the group with his ability to reach checkmate whithout looking at the chessboard once.
On Saturday, GM Timur Gareev roused the crowd with his ability to simultaneously play 17 chess games blindfolded. He won 15, drew 1 and lost 1. Quinn Creger executed Timur's moves. The simul lasted 4 1/2 hours. He plans to beat the blinfold chess world record of 50 boards in a 24 hour period. This event will take place in Las Vegas in abour 18-20 months. Saturday afternoon included a blitz tournament.
On Sunday, there was a 4 round rated tournament.
